The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
Psalm 19.1
A few weeks ago, during our Sunday series called The Long Run, my talk was called The Double Helix. The thrust of the series is overcoming the obstacles that keep us from a close, trusting relationship with God. One of those, for some people, is science. Does science undermine the existence of God? Or put another way, hasn’t science proven that God does not exist?
In the talk, I gave a synopsis of how just the opposite is true. Science, in many of its disciplines, actually provides evidence FOR the existence of intelligent design, for a designer. For God.
During my preparation, I came across Dr. Stephen C. Meyer, a highly educated scholar with a doctorate from Cambridge in the philosophy of science, and an advocate for intelligent design. I follow him on Facebook, and yesterday, he posted the following video. For those interested in this kind of thing, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did, and more importantly, I hope you will marvel at the wonder, creativity and beauty of our great God.
Amazing video clip!
Great to have your blog back, Jeff.
Thanks so much, Joy! It feels good to write, especially if/when I am making a difference in someone’s life.
Beautiful video with powerful message. It seems to me that people who cannot see God, a higher intelligence and being, as the creator and designer of our world, just have not opened their eyes and really looked at this world. This does not even get into any theology or belief system. Faith and relationship, I believe, would naturally come about upon reflection of the natural world around us.
Indeed, Val. This whole issue has me re-reading parts of the Bible that remind us of two very important truths. First, some people simply will not see God. He tells us that in John 12:40, “He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, lest they see with their eyes, and understand with their heart…” Second, faith is a gift. Ephesians 2:8, “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God…” I am slowly learning that I cannot argue someone to the cross. God must draw them. It’s not up to me to convince. It’s up to me to pray. Thanks for reading!
