you’ve been accepted. accept it!
Jesus was divine and he was human. he died and he rose. and his message was the kingdom of God… which means, in Jesus, God came to seek you out for a relationship. it’s not about religion, rules and regs. it’s about responding to a personal invitation from almighty God to join him in an intimate daily relationship.
Jesus told a parable about a king who threw a huge feast and invited people everywhere. some came and some didn’t. some were free and some were too busy. some knew it was the place to be, and others, well…

the life and ministry of Jesus was one of invitation.
come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and i will give you rest… (matthew 11.28)
the son of man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many… (mark 10.45)
God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life… (john 3.16)
i am the way, the truth and the life. no one can come to the father except through me… (john 14.6)
zacchaeus! quick, come down! i must be a guest in your home today…. (luke 19.5)
go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. then come, follow me… (matthew 19.21)
these are invitations. invitations of Jesus.
those who choose to respond are invited to seal that decision in baptism, if they have not been baptized already. yesterday at threshold, we celebrated this response by three people while dozens more went to other bowls of water to renew their relationship with Christ in meaningful ways. it was a special moment.
for conversation or reflection…
1. when were you baptized? recall or tell the story.
2. have you received and RSVP’ed to the invitation of Jesus to eternal life? do your cellmates know that story. they should. tell them.
3. what might God in Christ be inviting you to change in yourself? what would it take to respond?
4. who do you know who has yet to hear or respond to the saving invitation of Jesus? will you deliver the message?
